MobilED Platform Documentation
Technical Documentation, Version 2.0
This page is still under construction.
Introduction
This document describes the architecture, layout and implementation of the current MobilEd platform (version 2.0). It builds on ideas presented in the previous platform documentation, provides information on the usage of the platform as well as information on possible future developments.
This platform uses a variety of third-party technology platforms to achieve its goal; these will be described and their integration discussed in the relevant sections. However, the report does not focus on these components; only their usage as required by MobilEd is explained.
All component-, class- and deployment diagrams in this document are implemented in UML.
This document is likely to to be extended/modified in the future.
Goals
The goal of this platform is to enable the usage of a public information source, such as the Wikipedia on-line encyclopedia, via a mobile device, such as a cellular telephone. This is accomplished by making use of real-time communications technologies, e.g. speech-based technologies such as text-to-speech (TTS) engines and IVR applications, as well as messaging technologies such as SMS.
Users of the system are able to contribute data to the information source, by recording and uploading audio clips via their telephones.
This platform enables communities with little or no conventional access to the Internet to interact with and gain knowledge from state-of-the-art information sources. It also allows conventional Internet-based information providers to reach a wider audience, for instance in cases where SMS-style communication is more suited to the information at hand.
Concept and Design
This section contains use cases and user stories used during the design phases of the platform. It also provides architecture descriptions of the platform implementation, along with detailed descriptions on subcomponents, where necessary.
Use Cases
The use case diagram for the system is given in in Figure 1. It specifies the participants in a use case and the relationships between use cases within the system.
